First, Welcome!
I am originally from England, British born, from an American mother and an Australian father. My parents lived in the UK until very recently, when they both moved off to Sydney to
(supposedly) retire. My older brother, Scott, is currently is employed as a Site Manager by an Engineering Firm in London, and will soon become, with his recent Law Degree, a Construction
Lawyer. My parents were both professional singers in England, and travelled the world having sung both with many prestigious groups. They each have teaching studios in the UK, Sidney,
Australia, and the USA, as well as the occasional singing job.
I came over to the USA in 2001 after Graduating from the University of East Anglia in Norwich, England. There I gained my B.A in Music and was also a Choral Scholar at Norwich Cathedral. I
currently live in Falls Church, VA.
Here in the US, where I have been living since 2001, you'll find me doing many different things. I have an MM in vocal performance and pedagogy from the Peabody Institute and Conservatory
of Music, of the University of Johns Hopkins. I sing full-time at the Washington National Cathedral in DC as a Lay Clerk, where we not only perform for the regular evening and Sunday services,
but at special services of National importance, for example most recently, the Reagan Funeral. I also sing at St. Paul's K Street in DC, and the Washington Bach Consort, both of which I joined
in 2001. I am also an occasional choral director, and am sometimes seen directing the choir of men and boy's at St. Paul's Parish, K Street. September 2005 through July 2007, I was the boy
and girl choristers vocal coach and teacher.
I am also the director of the Countertop Quartet, Consort and Ensemble. This is a group I started in 2005 with Colleagues Marjory Bunday, Katherine Mueller and Nick Pepin. Originally, it was
only for upper voices (two countertenors, two sopranos, hence counter'top'). It now includes Tenors and Basses, and we perform around six concerts per year. See our website.
I would say that music is a fairly important part of my life. Another aspect of my music is my teaching. I've been actively teaching in this area since I moved here. My studio has grown from no
students to thirty students which is excellent. The majority of my students are taught a structured and graded lesson, based on the British system of the Associated Board of the Royal School
of Music (ABRSM). I only started this 2007, and currently have 10 out of 19 students working on AB Theory and Graded Vocal Exams. ALL so far this year, have both either passed,
gained Merit or Distinction in their Graded Exams! All students who start with me in the future, and all current ones will have an option to learn on the AB system.
Lastly, I have to recognise the part of my life in this country that allows me to separate myself from my music - something completely different. I volunteer as an Emergency Medical Technician
with the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad. This is a weekly 20+hour commitment, Monday nights from 7pm to 7am and whenever else I can find time to ride. There are over 150
dedicated volunteers in this organisation, and it is a great pleasure and Honor to be a part of it. The other volunteers with whom I work are all such fantastic individuals, I have to say it always
livens my mood to be at the squad and with these fine people. I have been a member of the Rescue Squad since June 2002. I don't think I would know my life without it. I've experienced so
much, seen and learnt so many amazing things, saved lives! I owe everything to the people I've worked with and everything they to do make the organisation what it is.
